The particular type of cotton is known for its glamorous appearance when used in saris. This special type of cotton is cultivated in areas of Birbhum district in West Bengal. Procedures of weaving the material into the corresponding yarn are simple while the outcome is an excellent one. The twist is the resultant yarn which is either cotton or a magnificent combination of silk and cotton.

Warp in the saris is made with new yarn and the strips of thin cloth obtained by lengthwise tearing of old saris are used as the weft. Market of old saris is made at Amodpur, to enable purchase of old saris in bulk. Most of the weavers have their own suppliers. These suppliers gather old saris from various places, get them washed and bring these to the weavers for selling.
