These saris are manufactured at Kanchipuram. It is a small temple town of Tamilnadu. It is apparent that the name was taken from the area of production. The fabric used in the production of these saris is extremely fine in nature. The saris are also adored for their capacity to sustain for a longer period. A combination of colored threads is used in the making. The additional attraction of the saris is the exquisite and elaborate zari. The beautiful motifs on the saris are based on the Pallava temples, palaces and paintings. The current varieties are using scenes from the epics like Ramayana and Mahabharata too. Sheer varieties in design has attracted popularity and made the saris a must-have in all famous saree shops in Kolkata.

The Kanchivaram saris have attained its incredibility with the sheer appearance of textures, colors and opulent designs. Normally, it takes around 10-12 days for complete manufacturing of a sari. However, discreet designs can also be induced and some decorative forms may be applied too. However, application of such things increases the time of designing as well as the cost. These varieties of saris are expensive and can cost anything between INR 2000 to 50000 – depending upon the amount of zari intertwined.
